Special Event Road Closure Requests

The Town of North Wilkesboro is a vibrant and historic community that is home to a variety of businesses, restaurants, and cultural attractions, as well as municipal resources that lend themselves to use for special events. North Wilkesboro hosts a number of special events throughout the year, which help to attract visitors and boost the local economy. 

Special Events Requiring Road Closures

Guidelines have been created to ensure that all special events requiring road closures held downtown are safe, orderly, and enjoyable for everyone involved. The requirements outlined in the Special Events Policy have been established to serve as a framework and standard practice for event organizers to follow for a successful event. This policy also serves to protect the interests of businesses, residents, and property owners in the downtown district. 

Note: Special Events involving street or sidewalk closures must be approved by the Town of North Wilkesboro Commissioners. Road closure event applications must be submitted at least 90 days in advance. All event organizers should review the Special Event Policy and information on this page before applying for a Special Event Road Closure to make the process as efficient as possible.

For individuals and community groups planning special events that request temporary road closure in downtown North Wilkesboro, the event organizer must meet all of the requirements outlined in the Special Event Policy

Procedure

Submit an application and all supporting materials to the Town at least 

  • 90 days before the event for NCDOT-owned roadways* (CBD Loop, D Street, Main Street, 6th Street, 10th Street) 
  • 45 days before the event for town-owned roadways ONLY

*NCDOT forms are only necessary if an NCDOT-owned roadway closure is requested. To confirm ownership status, visit the NCDOT Public Street Information Database. These closure requests must submit two (2) Certificates of Insurance, as outlined in the Special Event Policy. 

Additional Supporting Materials to submit with your application include Certificates of Insurance for the Town of North Wilkesboro (see example here) and the NCDOT, if requesting NCDOT-owned roadway closure; and a map displaying temporary road closure locations. If you are requesting closure of the CBD Loop in conjunction with renting the Yadkin Valley Marketplace, a rental form agreement for the Marketplace will also need to be submitted at this time.
