Downtown and River District Master Plan

Below, find information and updates regarding North Wilkesboro's Downtown and River District Master Plan. LandDesign, in collaboration with the Town of North Wilkesboro, is completing this plan to create a comprehensive vision for the future of our Downtown and River District areas.

What is the Master Plan?

This master plan aims to develop a cohesive strategy for revitalizing and developing North Wilkesboro’s downtown and river district, ensuring they function as distinct yet interconnected spaces. We are working to enhance the vibrancy, walkability, and economic potential of these areas while preserving our town's unique character and history.

Project Objectives

  • ... the plan aspires to position the area as a regional destination with partnerships with Wilkesboro and Wilkes County.
  • ...the plan is implementable and realistic based on market potential, viable partnerships, and environmental constraints.
  • ...the plan creates a vision for an attractive and lively Downtown that blends and grows into the River District, while retaining its own distinct character.
  • ...a stream of funding opportunities and tools for public sector improvements is identified in the plan.
  • ...critical projects and focus areas are identified, illustrated, and described as opportunities with a list of small, bite-sized projects and larger moves.
  • ...development opportunities and partnerships have been identified.
  • ...the recommendations retain and bolster the architectural and community character of North Wilkesboro.
  • ...there is a clear direction for opportunities to support the North Wilkesboro brand.
