PHASE 2.5 OF STATEWIDE REOPENING PERMITS ADDITIONAL TOWN AMENITIES TO REOPEN

[North Wilkesboro, NC, September 3, 2020] – Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2020, the Town of North Wilkesboro will reopen some recreation amenities that had been closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

These reopenings were permitted by changes in the statewide “Safer at Home” order announced by Governor Roy Cooper earlier this week. The main reopenings of note are listed in the “Parks and Recreation” section below.

Read on for more specifics on the status of all town services. 

North Wilkesboro Police Department – NWPD services being provided as normal. Residents are urged to dial 911 in case of emergency.

North Wilkesboro Fire Department – NWPD services being provided as normal. Residents are urged to dial 911 in case of emergency.

Public Services – Public services including yard waste and bulky refuse collection, landscape maintenance, and non-emergency street maintenance are being provided as normal.

Water/Sewer Department – Water/sewer services being provided as normal. Customers are encouraged to use online bill pay at www.north-wilkesborowater.com. In person bill pay is available only at the Town Hall’s walk-up payment window on Main St. No public access to Town Hall lobby for bill pay.

Parks and Recreation – Smoot Park’s playgrounds, basketball courts, skateboard park, and small picnic shelters will open for general use. Smoot Park’s large shelter/pavilion will be available by reservation only for groups of less than 50. The Yadkin River Greenway and Highland Hills Park Trails and Disc Golf Course are open. Tennis courts at Memorial Park will be available for general use. Memorial Park baseball fields remain available for individual and family use. Teams may use the fields for practice only. Games may not be played and crowds must be kept to less than 50 persons. Memorial Park BBQ pits are available for reserving parties with additional safety requirements in place. Woodlawn Recreation Center is closed until further notice.

Planning and Inspections – Staff will be available by appointment only. Call 336-667-7129. Planning staff will conduct business by phone and virtually when able. Inspections staff will implement additional safeguards to inspection meetings to maintain social distancing.

Tourism – The Yadkin Valley Farmers Market is open with additional safety measures in place. Concerts on the Deck are cancelled for 2020.   

Administration and Finance – Staff will be available by appointment only. Call 336-667-7129. Staff will conduct business by phone and virtually when able.

Board of Commissioners – Official Board of Commissioners meetings are being held at the Stone Family Center for Performing Arts to ensure space for social distancing. Residents who wish to attend public meetings will be asked to wear masks. Most meetings will also be broadcast online for remote viewing.   

North Wilkesboro Town Hall remains closed to public access. Staff are available by appointment only. Visitors to Town Hall must wear face masks.
