[ARCHIVED] Town of North Wilkesboro cancels remaining "Concerts on the Deck" for 2020

[North Wilkesboro, NC, August 17, 2020] – As part of its ongoing effort to fight the spread of the Coronavirus, the Town of North Wilkesboro is canceling the remaining 2020 “Concerts on the Deck” at the Yadkin Valley Marketplace.

Concerts scheduled for earlier in the summer were canceled in May, but September and October concerts remained on the schedule in the hopes that public health trends would improve enough for the events to be held.

“The Board of Commissioners sadly and reluctantly agreed with my recommendation that we cancel these events,” said Town Manager Wilson Hooper. “These concerts are important for our town. They help us build community, they bring business to downtown shops and restaurants, they showcase our town. But the public’s health and safety will always be our top priority.”

Currently in North Carolina, crowds at outdoor gatherings are limited by Executive Order no. 141 to no more than 25 persons. Executive order no. 155 extended that limit until at least September 11, 2020.

Hooper added: “The restrictions on gatherings have been extended several times already, and may be extended again in September. But even if these events become legally permissible, the risk is just too great.”

The Band of Oz was scheduled to perform on September 19. All My Rowdy Friends and Chelsea Sorrell and Runaway Train were scheduled for October 17. Alex Hall and 49 Winchester were scheduled for October 24.

The “Concerts on the Deck” lineup for summer 2021 includes Scythian, Brother Oliver, and The Embers with Craig Woolard. The series is sponsored by Window World.
