[ARCHIVED] Some town recreational amenities to reopen/resume

[North Wilkesboro, NC, July 8, 2020] – At its most recent public meeting, the North Wilkesboro Board of Commissioners agreed to resume/reopen some town services. Others will remain closed until further notice.

Read on for specifics on service levels for town departments.

North Wilkesboro Police Department – Emergency response services are operating as normal. Residents are urged to dial 911 in case of emergency.

North Wilkesboro Fire Department – Emergency response services are operating as normal. Residents are urged to dial 911 in case of emergency.

Public Services – Yard waste and bulky refuse collection, as well as public landscape management and non-emergency street maintenance are operating as normal.

Water/Sewer Department – Water/sewer services are operating as normal. Customers are encouraged to use online bill pay at www.north-wilkesborowater.com. In person bill pay is available only at the Town Hall’s walk-up payment window on Main St. No public access to Town Hall lobby for bill pay.

Parks and Recreation – The Yadkin River Greenway and Highland Park Trails and Disc Golf Course are open. Tennis courts at Memorial Park are now open for individual or singles play. Doubles play is prohibited. Memorial Park baseball fields are now available for individual and family use. Teams may use the fields for practice only. Games may not be played, and crowds must be kept to less than 25 persons. Memorial Park BBQ pits are available for reserving parties with additional safety requirements in place. Playgrounds, picnic shelters, the skateboard park, and town basketball courts remain closed. Woodlawn Recreation Center is closed until further notice. Smoot Park Pool is closed for the season.

Planning and Inspections – Staff are available by appointment only. Call 336-667-7129. Planning staff are conducting business by phone and virtually when able. Inspections staff have implemented additional safeguards to inspection meetings to maintain social distancing.

Tourism – The Wilkes County Farmers Market is open with social distancing and other protective measures in place. Patrons are strongly encouraged to wear masks. Concerts on the Deck are cancelled through August.   

Administration and Finance – Staff are available by appointment only. Call 336-667-7129. Staff will conduct business by phone and virtually when able.

Board of Commissioners – Board of Commissioners meetings will take place at off-site locations that accommodate social distancing until further notice. Meetings are open to the public, but social distancing will be observed and attendees are asked to wear masks.   

North Wilkesboro Town Hall remains closed to public access. Staff are available by appointment only. Visitors to Town Hall must wear face masks.
