[ARCHIVED] Some town services to resume June 1, others cancelled for 2020

[North Wilkesboro, NC, May 29, 2020] – Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2020, the Town of North Wilkesboro will resume some services that had been on-hold during the state’s recent “stay-at-home” period.

Other services will remain closed through the end of June to coincide with Phase 2 of the statewide reopening. They will be reassessed at the end of the month.

Yet other services have been cancelled for the summer due to high risk of promoting virus transmission.

Read on for more specifics.  

North Wilkesboro Police Department – No changes to emergency response services. Residents are urged to dial 911 in case of emergency.

North Wilkesboro Fire Department – No changes to emergency response services. Residents are urged to dial 911 in case of emergency.

Public Services – Yard waste and bulky refuse collection will resume. Landscape maintenance will resume. Non-emergency street maintenance will resume.

Water/Sewer Department – No changes to water/sewer service. Customers are encouraged to use online bill pay at www.north-wilkesborowater.com. In person bill pay is available only at the Town Hall’s walk-up payment window on Main St. No public access to Town Hall lobby for bill pay.

Parks and Recreation – Playgrounds, picnic shelters, sports courts, skateboard parks and other recreations amenities that accommodate mass gatherings are closed. Woodlawn Recreation Center is closed until further notice. Chickenques scheduled for the summer at Town of North Wilkesboro facilities are cancelled. Smoot Park Pool will not open for summer 2020. Hiking trails remain available for individual use. Bathroom facilities are closed.  

Planning and Inspections – Staff will be available by appointment only. Call 336-667-7129. Planning staff will conduct business by phone and virtually when able. Inspections staff will implement additional safeguards to inspection meetings to maintain social distancing.

Tourism – The Yadkin Valley Farmers Market will open in June with additional safety measures in place. Concerts on the Deck are cancelled through August.   

Administration and Finance – Staff will be available by appointment only. Call 336-667-7129. Staff will conduct business by phone and virtually when able.

Board of Commissioners – Official Board of Commissioners meetings will take place virtually through June.  

North Wilkesboro Town Hall remains closed to public access. Staff are available by appointment only. Visitors to Town Hall must wear face masks.
