[ARCHIVED] Kick the tires on North Wilkesboro's new sanitation truck

[North Wilkesboro, NC, April 28, 2020] The Town of North Wilkesboro will soon launch the newest addition to its fleet. A 2020 Mack with a Pak-Mor Loader will hit the streets in the coming weeks, performing curbside refuse collection. The new truck replaces a 2006 Sterling truck.

Robert Wiles, the new truck’s operator, is excited about the new equipment. "This truck should help us get through our route safer and more efficiently," he said.

The town expects the new truck to be more reliable than the old, which has been increasingly out of service for repair. The old truck will now become the back-up truck, and the current back-up sold as surplus.

The 2020 Mack was purchased for approximately $215,000, with proceeds from a loan with BB&T (now known as Truist). The town will pay 2.38% interest for five years. The seller offered the town the same price it offers volume buyers like the State of North Carolina. The truck has a five year powertrain, transmission, and emissions warranty.
