[ARCHIVED] Town Hall closed Thursday, February 18, 2021

[NORTH WILKSBORO, NC, February 17, 2021] – The latest forecast from the National Weather Service and other trusted sources indicate with almost 100% certainty that wintry precipitation will pass over the area late tonight and early tomorrow morning.

Therefore, town crews will begin treating downtown sidewalks this afternoon, and town streets this evening after the conclusion of the commuting hour. Crews will be on call tomorrow to deal with any aftereffects from the weather, and to continue scraping and treating roads as needed.

But the presence of wintry precipitation will affect the town’s ability to safely provide some of its normal services. Therefore:

  • Town Hall will be closed Thursday, February 18, 2021. This decision was made to protect the health and safety of employees who commute to work from all areas of Wilkes County. Employees who are able will work from home.
  • The garbage collection route scheduled for Thursday, February 18 will be delayed one day and collected on Friday, February 19 so that sanitation workers do not have to work in icy conditions.

As always, emergency services will be available by calling 911.

Residents are encouraged to stay home and off the roads for the duration of the storm. Residents may sign up for power outage alerts, and report outages to Duke Energy, at https://www.duke-energy.com/outages/alerts.
