[ARCHIVED] Town continues to seek volunteers to serve on newly created Cemetery Committee

[NORTH WILKESBORO, NC, October 20, 2020] – The Town of North Wilkesboro is seeking volunteers to serve on its newly created Cemetery Committee. The committee was established on October 8, 2020 by resolution of the North Wilkesboro Board of Commissioners to enhance the cultural, spiritual, historical, and recreational value of cemetery grounds within the town.

Specifically, the Cemetery Committee will be tasked with advising the Board of Commissioners on the management, care, maintenance, and preservation of town-maintained cemeteries.

The committee will be composed of five members appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Three seats must be filled town residents. Two appointments are “at-large”, meaning they may be filled by individuals who live outside town limits or in other towns. The town’s director of public works will act as the cemeteries’ caretaker/sexton; other town staff will assist the committee’s work as needed.

Terms will last two years. The committee will set its own schedule, but it is recommended that it meet no less than quarterly.
