FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NORTH WILKESBORO TO HOLD PUBLIC INPUT SESSION ON

SMOOT PARK MASTER PLAN

[NORTH WILKESBORO, NC, February 3, 2022] – The Town of North Wilkesboro will hold a public input session to receive community feedback on possible updates to Smoot Park. The session will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at in the Town Hall Commissioners Room, 210 9th St., or via Zoom at the following link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81345860887

Town staff and a parks expert from the town’s design firm, Withers Ravenel, will be on hand to receive feedback from residents and park users on what they’d like to see Smoot Park look like in the years to come. Along with the input received from other stakeholders, the feedback from this session will be incorporated into a Smoot Park Master Plan presented to the North Wilkesboro Board of Commissioners at their February 24 regular meeting.  Development of the master plan is being funded with a grant from the Wilkes Medical Center Foundation.

Once adopted, the Master Plan will serve two distinct purposes:

  1. Be a blueprint for physical improvements to the park in years to come as funding permits.
  2. Be the foundation of the town’s applications for philanthropic and state funding.

All in-person attendees of the February 8, 2022 session are strongly encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing.
